The Power of Backlinks

There was a time not too long ago when on-page content was the primary factor for search engine optimization.  These days, I will argue that backlinks make up about 70%, if not more, of the algorithm search engines use to rank results.  It makes me wonder how effective SEOs will be in the future, since link building is more about who you know then what you know.  Granted, excellent content on a fairly popular site should garnish its fair share of backlinks depending on the audience and topic, but what about smaller sites, or new sites, that need to establish themselves in the internet world?  Without significant link juice pumping back to their site, their only hope is to target long-tail keyword phrases that have at least 3 or more keywords, or to pick less targeted uncommon single keywords.

I did a test with a new domain that had zero branding.  The new domain (which I can not share) was live for over six months, and had a unique single word URL containing less than 10 characters.   This site had little to no backlinks, yet very good on-page SEO.  Bing and Yahoo, who give more rank to domains that contain the search keyword in the URL, displayed this site on the first page of search results when searching for just the domain name (no www and no .com).   The highest Google ranked for the same term varied from 15-19 which is a second page result.  Considering Google has about 90% market share for search, something had to be done.

I set out to find a decent site that could provide some relevant link juice back to this domain.  It took a little effort to establish a relationship with the would-be backlink provider, but I managed to get a link (white-hat of course, not purchased, and not on an FFA site) back to the domain.  Within a day of the backlink going live, the new domain immediately jumped to the first or second result on ALL search engines when I searched for the domain keyword.

I am convinced more than ever that while the search engine algorithms may change daily over time, solid backlinks will continue to be the most important factor of search engine optimization.

70 people trapped after wind collapses tent or building at aviation fair in Lakeland, Florida

Just saw CNN post this online, and the first thing that came to mind is "why in the world are you at an aviation fair during such inclement weather?".  I can understand a few people, but 70 people trapped after wind collapses a tent?  I am eager to read more details on this "fair" as it must be doing something right to draw large groups of people during days when tornadoes are imminent.  Feel free to post a comment below if you happen to be at this event, or know more about the details.

How Addicted Are You To Your Phone?

You wake up in the morning, shuffle to the bathroom and WOOPS! - there goes your phone down the toilet.  What type of person are you in this situation:

Person #1 - You Skip the shower and head straight to the nearest Verizon Wireless or ATT store.  Yes, your breath is funky, but waiting another hour to post your next Facebook status is way too long.

Person #2 - You think "I never thought this would happen to me!", take your time getting a shower and figure out when you have time to budget 30 minutes into your day for a visit to your friendly mobile phone store.

Person #3 - You think "I never thought this would happen to me...again!" and you begin to wonder if owning a mobile phone is the best thing for your lifestyle.

The only reason I ask this question is to get some type of gauge on how critical mobile phones have become in our everyday life.  It seems that people are becoming more reliable, if not completely addicted to this type of technology to the point that living without this "convenience" is not even an option.

I never take mobile life for granted as it not only improves our quality of life by simplifying tedious tasks, but more importantly connects people with each other in ways we never thought possible.

Web Design Delray Beach

I was a little taken back when I noticed just how many websites were owned by companies based in Delray Beach, Florida.  One of the biggest problems most Web Development companies have starting out is basing their internet marketing strategy on a national level.  Why not focus on your own back yard first, show some success, and then apply those case studies when marketing to expand your reach?  Delusions of grandeur (I will always quote Star Wars whenever possible) are usually the culprit when a small business think-tank gets together and feels a national audience is the core market.

We are realistic about expectations, and know that every journey starts with a single step.  That single step is our backyard - Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale in particular.  If you have a company, or know of a company that requires Delray Beach Web Development of Fort Lauderdale Web Development, we would be happy to give you a refreshing opinion and new approach to accomplishing your goals.  Our blended onshore/offshore will give you quality work and a local relationship in addition to the affordability that comes with offshore outsourcing.  Support your local community today by partnering with a local Web Development company that can deliver the solutions you need and the prices you want.
